Took his 1st wife and left for the California Gold Rush. He brought back a sack of nuggets and bought a farm in Missouri and some Thoroughbreds. He was a Confederate Soldier in the Civil War. Worked as a Sawyer (cut lumber), Mill right and built boilers.
