Memories and Legacy of the Kimbrough Family

Frances Steele Kimbrough

Frances was born Jan. 21, 1903. She was the second child to George and Minnie Jackson Kimbrough.  She married Benjamin L. Helm when she was 18 yrs. old. They had five children together. Grandma was talented with the Organ and Ukulele. She was a deeply religious women. She remarried later to Russ Pinson Gilbert in 1939 and they had one son. She served valiantly in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

George Henry Kimbrough

George grew up in Mississippi and married Minnie Howard Jackson in Nov. 1900. She had lost her husband and son. They had a son from her previous marriage and three more children of their own. While they were yet a young family he served in World War I as a Private in Co. K  1st Mississippi Infantry. 

John Wesley and Elizabeth Steele Kimbrough

John Wesley served during the Civil War. He rose quickly in ranks from private to sergeant by the end of the war. He fought bravely in Gettysburg. After the war he fell in love with Elizabeth and started a beautiful family. Grandma Frances Steele Kimbrough said her fondest memories were visiting her Grandpa John and Grandma Elizabeth Kimbrough

Thomas Trench Kimbrough & Eliza Jane Gunter

(John Wesley’s father and mother.) He grew up and found the love of his life in Sumnter, Tennessee. With his young family he moved to Carroll Co. Mississippi. He was a successful merchant by trade.

George Henry Kimbrough & Esther Love Steele

(Elizabeth Steele Kimbrough’s parents) George was born in No. Carolina and his father died when he was young. He met and married Esther while visiting family in Alabama. He bought land in Kemper Co. Mississippi and became a very successful farmer.

Orman Kimbrough & Mildred "Milly" Patillou

(George Henry Kimbrough’s Parents) Orman received the large house and developed land from his father Marmaduke. This included a huge orchard of apples that they made into vinegar and apple cider. 

Marmaduke Kimbrough & Martha Esther "Patsy" Young

(Thomas Trench Kimbrough’s Parents.) When Marmaduke’s father died he wasn’t born yet. He wasn’t in his father’s Will and didn’t inherit any property in No. Carolina. He entered the War of 1812 and because of that was granted some land in Sumner Co., Tennessee and this is where he raised his family

Marmaduke Kimbrough I & Mary Jane Turner

Marmaduke came from Scotland with his father. His two children Marmaduke Jr. and Orman were brother’s and their great grandchildren married…. This would be John Wesley and Elizabeth Steele Kimbrough. Marmaduke had a large house and 600 acres of partly deeloped land along the Yakdin River.
