Charles Augustus was born in Wesson, Union County, Arkansas to Jacob W Helm and Nancy Goza. When he married he continued to live in Union County and raised his family there. For a short time he moved to Pike County. When his son Benjamin L Helm married Frances Steele Kimbrough, he moved his family to Scooba, Kemper Co., Mississippi to try his hand at farming. It didn’t work out so Charles and May moved their family back to Hot Springs Co., Arkansas. He and May both died in Malvern, Hot Springs County Arkansas.

May Ross was born in 1880 to William Jackson Ross and Nancy Sheppard Griffin. She married at the age of 17 and moved to Arkansas to live around Charles mother.

Charles and his family lived on a farm in Jackson Township located in Union County, Arkansas. Nancy Goza Helm his mother lived there with her younger brother Peter Goza who ran the farm while Charles and his siblings were young. Jacob, his father died just before Charles was born.
1900 Census Henderson Township, Union County, Arkansas
Charles was married at the age of 22 to May who was from Texas and just 17 years old. He lived close by his Mother, Nancy Goza Helm’s farm so he could help her out, as she was a young widow.
1910 Census Wolf Creek Township, Pike County, Arkansas
After his mother passed away in 1905 he moved with his young family to Wolf Creek, Pike County. There he and May had three of their seven children.
1920 Census Charles and May Helm Address
Around 1919-1920 the Helms moved to Scooba, Kemper Co., Mississippi to try his luck at farming in the fertile sunny state. It was while farming in this area that his son Benjamin L Helm met Frances Steele Kimbrough. After a short courtship they married. Shortly after the Helms returned to Arkansas.

It was in Malvern, Hot Springs location that Charles and May retired.
