In the name of God, Amen.
I James Carter of the State of Georgia and Warren County, being in a common state of health and sound memory, but calling to mind the uncertainty of this life, do make this my last will and testament.
First of all, I give and bequeath my soul to God that gave it me and my body to be buried as may suit my Executors. I also constitute and ordain Jesse Carter my son, Moore Carter, Jacob Smith my children & John Bayn my Executors of this my last will; And what worldly goods that pleased God to endow me with, I dispose of as follows. Item 1. I give and bequeath unto my son Jesse Carter, two Negroes that he has in possession, a fellow named Cary and a Negro wench named Chaney and her increase.
Item 2. I give and bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Sarah Hodo one Negro girl named Orpe and her increase.
Item 3. I give and bequeath unto my son Moore Carter one Negro boy named Stepne, and one Negro girl named Treasy and her increase; and one hundred acres of land whereon he now lives.
Item 4. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Christian Smith one Negro named Rose.
Item 5. I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac Carter, three Negroes Nepton, Pomp & Jack: Also, one hundred & thirty seven acres of land, that I bought of Bray Warren to be laid out of a two hundred and seventy five acre tract that I bought of said BrayWarren; and the other half to my son Allen Carter to be equally divided between the two.
Item 6. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth Burson one Negro girl named Pallace.
Item 7. I give unto my son Allen Carter three Negro boys Season, Hardy, and Tom, one bay mare poll, one bed of furniture, two cows, one sow of pigs, one ewe and lamb.
Item 8. I give unto my Daughter Renney Davis one Negro boy named Bob.
Item 9. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Penelope Davis one Negro boy named Cato.
Item 10. I give and bequeath unto Parthenay Carter one Negro girl named Phillis, one bed of furniture, one sidesaddle and bridle.
Item 11. I give and bequeath unto my son James Carter one Negro boy named Simon, one Negro girl named Violet, and increase, one Negro boy named George, one bed of furniture, one bay mare named Doll, bridle and saddle, two cows of calves, two sows and pigs, two ewes and lambs, three hundred and ninety five acres of land, the plantation where I now live.
Item 12. I lend unto my Beloved wife Elizabeth Carter seven Negroes, Ned, Dorset, Isbel, Venus, Fib, Jude, and Peter, two beds and furnitures, and all the rest of my Estate that is not disposed of in this Will, and peacable possession of my house and plantation during her Natural life in widowhood. And at her decease I give unto my son Jesse Carter one Negro named Ned, and to my son Moore Carter, one Negro wench named Venus and one Negro woman named Treasy, and fifty dollars. I give to my Daughter Parthenay one Negro wench named Isbel. To my son Allen Carter one wench named Fibb. To Isaac Carter one Negro wench named Jude. And the remainder, or what is left, or not mentioned in the will, to James Carter my son. As witness my hand and Seal this Ninth day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred seven.

Personally appeared in Open Court, William Cason, Esq. One of the subscribing witnesses to the within Will, and being duly sworn on the holy Evangelist of Almighty God, Deposeth & saith that he saw James Carter Sign, Seal, acknowledge & pronounce the within instrument as his last will and testament and did at the same time see Vincent A. Tharp, sign his name together with himself as the other subscribing witness thereto. And that the said Testator was (in his opinion) of sound and disposing mind of memory. Sworn & subscribed in Open Court this 6th day of May 1811
