Benjamin was 26 when he married Sarah who was just 16 years old. They had 11 children together.  Benjamin was a farmer for most of his life. For a brief time he enlisted and fought in the Civil War. Before he was able to return his mother passed away in Arkansas in 1865, He ended up staying in Texas for a few year after the war. They had Arkansas in their blood and towards the end of his life they moved back and bought 80 acres in Union, Arkansas.

1850 Census El Dorado Township, Union, Arkansas- Nancy Brown (16) born in North Carolina lives with her Father, John R Brown (39) who is a Farmer and her mother, Nancy Brown (44) along with two brothers William (16), and Harrison (12) and an older sister, Martha A (18).

1850 Census Jackson Township, Union Arkansas – Benjamin Goza (26) born South Carolina,  lives with his brother Peter Goza (29) born South Carolina, and his Mother Elizabeth Goza (69)  Born North Carolina

Feb. 17, 1853 Benjamin and Nancy Elizabeth got married in Jackson Township, Union Arkansas

1854 Nancy Elizabeth (our g…g..grandma) was born in Union, Arkansas

1855 Robert W was born in Union, Arkansas

1859 Benjamin gets a land grant for 80 acres of land in Union, Arkansas

1860 Peter Augustus was born in Union, Arkansas

1861 Benjamin Brodie was born in Union Arkansas

1863 Mary Ophelia was born in Union, Arkansas just as her father headed off for the Civil War.

1863-1865 Benjamin served in Leavenworth’s Company Union, Arkansas

Texas- Mid 1860’s to the mid 1870’s family lived in Texas. Why they went there, we do not know….

1864 Texas–At the end of the Civil War the family moves to Jefferson, Marion Co.,Texas

1866 Texas–Sarah gave birth to a set of twins, a little boy and girl in Texas. They named them Thadeous William, and Willie Theodocia Goza.

1869 Eugene E was born in Marion, Texas

1872 Youngest daughter Susan Idel was born In Marion, Texas

The Family Moves Back to Arkansas 

1880 Cornie Township, Union, Arkansas Benj (55) & Sarah E (45) Benjamin is listed as being ; maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled. Benjamin’s occupation was listed as being a farmer. They have five children living with them on the farm; Benj. B (19) Son, born in Arkansas, working on the farm; Willie Theodocia(15) daughter at school, born in Texas; Thadeus, (15) a son working on the farm, born in Texas; Eugene (11) Son, born in Texas, working on the farm; Susan Idel (9) daughter, born in Texas, at school

1885 Benjamin Goza buys 80 Acres of land in Camden, Arkansas

March 31, 1898 Benjamin Goza Died

1900 Census Henderson Township, Union, Arkansas  Sarah (66) widowed lives with her son Benjamin B (39), her niece Alice Brown (37) and a servant John (19) She has had eleven children with nine surviving to adulthood.

1901 Widow Sarah E Goza applied for a War Pension
