Frances was married twice. Her first husband was Benjamin L. Helm. She had five children with him. Norma was born first in 1923, Elizabeth Camille in 1925, Benjamin Lebaume Helm Jr. in 1927, Dorothy Anne in 1929, and Trudy Carolyn in 1935. After Benjamin left her she married Russell Pinson Gilbert and they had one son together, Russell P. Jr.
